Senior Leaders & Executives · Board Presentation Review

Your board doesn’t need more information. It needs your point.

A focused review of a board update, paper or presentation, and how you will deliver it.

Boards read a lot and have little time. We find the decision, the recommendation and the order that gets them there.

Part of the work I do with Senior Leaders and Executives.

Does this sound familiar?

Senior people rarely lack content. The trouble is choosing what the board needs to hear and saying it with weight.

  • The update reads like a diary.

Everything that happened is in, and the decision is on the last slide.

  • A hard question knocks you off course.

You know the answer, but it comes out long and defensive.

  • You are not sure how you come across.

You want to sound certain without sounding rehearsed.

What the review covers

We work from your real paper or slides.

We look at both the content and how you will say it.

  • Executive summary

The few lines a board member reads if they read nothing else.

  • Decisions and recommendations

What you are asking the board to decide, stated early and plainly.

  • Structure and priorities

What leads, what supports and what moves to an appendix.

  • Challenging questions

The questions most likely to come, and how to answer without waffling or getting defensive.

  • Leadership presence

Pace, voice and stillness, so the way you speak carries the same authority as the content.

  • Opening and close

The first minute and the last, rehearsed aloud.

Same update. A clear point.

Here is a short illustration of a board update that starts with the decision instead of the activity.

Before

“Over the last quarter the team has progressed several workstreams. I will take you through each one, and then we can discuss next steps.”

After

“I need a decision today on whether we extend the programme by one quarter. Here is why I recommend yes, and what it costs.”

An illustrative example. Not client work. No results are claimed. The after version opens with the ask. The detail comes after, for those who want it.

What changed?

  1. Decision first

The board knows what you need from them in the first sentence.

  2. Recommendation, then reasons

Your view comes before the evidence, so people listen to the evidence with a question in mind.

  3. Activity is support

Progress details stay ready for questions, not on the front line.

How we work

One focused session on one board moment.

  1. Share the paper and the date

Tell me who sits on the board and what you need from them.

  2. Say the opening

You deliver the first few minutes aloud. I listen for the point.

  3. Shape the structure

We decide what leads, what supports and what you can leave out.

  4. Practise the hard questions

I ask the questions a board member would. You rehearse the opening and the close.

What you leave with

Clear working notes from one session.

  • A one or two sentence statement of your point
  • A suggested order for the update
  • Your most likely hard questions, practised aloud
  • A rehearsed opening and close

I do not rewrite board papers in a Room Review. A recording of the session is included, with your consent. A rewrite or a transcript is only included if we agree it in advance.

Authority is partly how you say it.

I have spent 25+ years in global business, working with people who present to boards, senior teams and stakeholders. My work focuses on clarity, structure and the presence to deliver them under pressure.

  • 25+years in global business
  • 1,737+people coached

Across all my coaching, not a count of leaders.

What that means for a board moment

  • MessageThe decision and the reasons.
  • MindsetCalm under questioning.
  • PresenceAuthority without strain.

Common questions

  • Yes. We can work from an outline, with names and figures removed. Nothing you share is stored or passed on.

  • I help you choose the point and the order. You know the business, so the content stays yours.

  • Yes. We practise the questions you would least like to be asked, and how to answer them calmly.

  • No. It suits anyone who presents to a board or senior committee.

  • 40 minutes, online.

  • **What you share is used to prepare for and deliver your session.** A recording is made **only with your consent**. How personal information is handled is set out in the [privacy policy](/privacy).

Bring the update. Find the point.

Share the paper or the outline and the date. We will work out where to start.
