How to be the Best Man (Even when the Bride's not your #1 fan!)

By

So, you're the Best Man at a wedding, but the Bride doesn't like you? Awkward! But fear not, you can still pull off a cracking speech that'll make the Groom feel like a king and the guests roar with laughter!

First things first, don't take it personally. You know what they say - "you can't please everyone". It's not about you, it's about the happy couple, so don't let any bad vibes ruin their special day.

Do your research. Talk to the Groom and find out what he wants you to say. Ask him about his relationship with the Bride, and what makes her tick. If she's a fan of cats or Harry Potter, work that into your speech (but please, for the love of God, don't try to combine the two).

You may not be BFFs with the Bride, but being a supportive Best Man is the best gift for the Groom!

When writing your speech, keep it light and positive. Leave any past break-ups or nasty comments at the door - it's not the time or place. Stick to funny anecdotes and stories that show off the couple's personalities and make everyone feel warm and fuzzy.

With a little bit of charm, wit, and respect, you can turn things around and make her see you in a different light.

  • Firstly, it's important to be genuine. Don't try to be someone you're not, or come across as fake or insincere. Be yourself, and focus on building a genuine connection with the Bride. Ask her questions about herself and her interests, and show a genuine interest in her life. This can help to break the ice and build a rapport.

  • Another way to win over the Bride is through humour. If you can make her laugh, you're halfway there. Try to incorporate some light-hearted humour into your interactions with her, whether it's a witty comment or a funny observation. Just make sure it's not at her expense, or anyone else's, for that matter.

  • It's also important to be respectful and courteous at all times. Treat the Bride with the same level of respect that you would want to be treated with. Be polite, attentive, and courteous, and don't let any past issues or negative feelings get in the way of your interactions with her.

  • Finally, don't be afraid to apologise if necessary. If there has been some past tension or conflict between you and the Bride, a sincere apology can go a long way towards making things right. Be honest and straightforward, and apologise for any misunderstandings or hurt feelings.

In conclusion, winning over the Bride when she doesn't like you can be a challenge, but it's not impossible. By being genuine, humourous, respectful, and willing to apologise if necessary, you can turn things around and make her see you in a different light. Remember, it's all about building a connection and showing that you're a decent and likable person.

With a little bit of effort and a positive attitude, you might even end up becoming friends by the end of the night.

Yes being the Best Man at a wedding where the Bride doesn't like you can be a challenge, but it's not impossible. Keep it light, keep it positive, and keep your eye on the prize - making the Groom feel like a king!
